On October 16, 2024, ECHA published the notes that - The Member State Committee (MSC) classified triphenyl phosphate as a substance of very great concern (SVHC) due to its endocrine-disrupting effects in the environment. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) will list this chemical on the Candidate List in early November.
The committee unanimously approved an alternative testing approach under REACH: the non-vertebrate Hyalella Azteca test (HYBIT) as the standard information requirement. This test, aligned with the recently released OECD Test Guideline 321, assesses chemical bioaccumulation potential in aquatic environments and serves as a substitute for fish testing, thereby reducing the need for vertebrate animal testing.
Further discussions will continue in the December conference, including a review of the prioritization strategy for drugs to be included in the Authorization List.
