The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assessed the safety of extending the use of quillaia extract (E 999) in food supplements with a maximum dosage of 4000 mg/kg. This proposal excludes supplements for infants and young children. No new toxicity data was identified since the 2019 re-evaluation. Exposure estimates from food supplements do not exceed the ADI for any population group. EFSA concluded that the proposed extension in food supplements (solid and liquid forms) would not pose a risk to health.
