"CTPA reports that the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added a new entry in its Registry of Intentions, proposing Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, and Reprotoxic (CMR) classifications for Cuminaldehyde. Under Article 15 of the UK and EU Cosmetics Regulations, cosmetic ingredients classified as CMR must undergo a safety review to ensure their continued use. This initiative aims to facilitate an Annex III entry for sodium chlorite within the Cosmetics Regulation if Cuminaldehyde receives the proposed classification.

Although a previous usage check for Cuminaldehyde was conducted, further detailed information is needed regarding its specific role as a constituent of Natural Complex Substances (NCS), rather than simply as an ingredient. Companies interested in participating in the defense work for Cuminaldehyde are encouraged to contact CTPA at info@ctpa.org.uk by November 13, 2024. The substance, 4-isopropylbenzaldehyde (Cuminaldehyde), listed under EC number 204-516-9 and CAS number 122-03-2, with a classification scope of Repro 1B."
