On October 8, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rule to add 16 individually listed per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 15 PFAS categories to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). This action is in compliance with the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA) and involves reporting requirements under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA). The rule also outlines the conditions under which PFAS categories may trigger automatic additions to the TRI.
The comment period for this proposed rule will remain open until December 9, 2024
