The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a reminder urging the public to dispose of any cosmetics containing Lilial, also known as butylphenyl methylpropional. Used previously as a fragrance in cosmetics like perfumes and shower gels, Lilial has been banned in Great Britain since December 2022 due to reproductive health concerns.
OPSS calls on the cosmetics industry to ensure no products containing Lilial are available for sale, advising immediate removal and consideration of recalls for any items sold after the ban. The public is asked to check labels on personal cosmetics and report any products containing Lilial to relevant consumer advice services in the UK.
