MERCOSUR has launched a public consultation on Draft Resolution No. 07/24, which proposes a new technical regulation for food-grade post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET-PCR) packaging intended for contact with food. This draft resolution would replace GMC Resolution No. 30/07 and aims to incorporate updated recycling technologies. The consultation period runs from 24 February to 27 April 2025.

Stakeholders, including institutions and individuals, are invited to submit contributions and proposals through the public consultation process. The feedback received will be reviewed by technical specialists and considered in the development of a final regulation, which may be adopted by the Common Market Group (GMC) and integrated into national legal frameworks. Additionally, the resolution has been notified to the World Trade Organization's (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade Committee, allowing WTO members outside MERCOSUR to provide input until 27 April 2025.
