NMDA receptor antagonists offer promising neuroprotection in ischemic stroke by reducing calcium influx and preventing excitotoxic neuronal death. This conference poster presents breakthroughs on NR2B-specific agents and glycine-site inhibitors, which selectively target pathological activity without affecting normal synaptic function. Preclinical and clinical studies show reduced infarct size, enhanced recovery, and extended treatment windows, suggesting that these antagonists, combined with standard therapies, could significantly improve stroke outcomes and reduce secondary injury.
