Overview of the Launch Ceremony
The non-profit Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing Support Foundation (GTHB-SF) was formally established on September 23, 2024, during a ceremony held at Yonsei University's International Campus in Songdo, Incheon. The principal objectives of the foundation are to establish the Global Bio Campus and to train biomanufacturing professionals in low- and middle-income countries.
Mission and Achievements
Designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022, South Korea has been the sole Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing, tasked with enhancing biomanufacturing capabilities, especially in vaccine production. Since then, over 500 biomanufacturing professionals from various countries have been trained annually, contributing significantly to vaccine self-sufficiency.
- 2022: 754 participants were trained, with 559 receiving in-person training from 43 countries and 195 completing online courses.
- 2023: 1,187 participants trained, with 554 attending in-person sessions from 54 countries and 633 through online courses.
Global Bio Campus and Expansion
The Global Bio Campus is being built in Songdo, Incheon, and is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2024, to fulfill the promise of teaching more than 2,000 professionals annually. The planned workforce development for biomanufacturing will be centered on this campus.
Future Vision and Cooperation
Important speakers, such as GTHB-SF Chairman Noh Yeon-hong and Park Minsoo, the Ministry of Health and Welfare(MOHW)'s 2nd Vice Minister, emphasized the foundation's vital role in advancing vaccine self-sufficiency and boosting Korea's international status in the bioindustry.
